Energy Healing Series (4) – Resentment (Intrusive Energy)

Sometimes we encounter phenomena or physical symptoms that are difficult to understand, but if we look at them from an energy perspective, things may become clearer. Let's first look at what Grace had to say after an energy cleansing:


“I have been talking about and working on getting over my ex with Clare for a long time and at one point I thought I finally got over the relationship until that one week when I started getting bothered by sudden intrusive thoughts of my ex. They were unstoppable thoughts that were controlling, prompting me to think about my ex almost every second of the day for the whole week. I felt like there was some sort of energy manipulating my thoughts, pushing me to do irrational things like contacting my ex again after three years of breakup. It was terrifying for me because I was also experiencing extreme stress and discomfort from all these thoughts and ideas.


After talking to Clare, she suggested that I might be experiencing what’s called a Psychic Attack where my ex had been unintentionally emitting negative energy at me because of all the bad things they had been experiencing during the period. My understanding of the situation was that their “egregores”, or however best way to be described, found their ways to me through the connections we had and how I have been naturally more sensitive to people’s energies.


Clare suggested that she could try energy healing with me to help with this situation. She explained what she was going to do and what I needed to do in response. It was a shock to me when she told me that she was sensing some negative energy around me. I cannot remember what exactly happened during the process but it was fascinating to see and to be a part of. I remember how relieved I became walking out of the room as if there had been weights lifted off my shoulders. It amused me how those previously troubling intrusive thoughts were just miraculously gone and I felt control over my thoughts once again.


I feel like this description of my experience sounds way more “supernatural” and exaggerated than I intended it to be. However, it is exactly how confused and surprised I felt that made this whole experience meaningful to me because I felt “free” again from all the things that had been troubling me, causing me stress, discomfort and anger. I would say energy healing definitely helped me a lot, at least in my situation, especially how after that I really stopped thinking about my ex, even though occasionally they’d still pop up in my mind, I do not feel negative emotions anymore.”

What Grace experienced was thought energy from her ex, who at the time was filled with strong negative emotions, accompanying the thoughts like an arrow shot towards Grace. This kind of thought energy can be understood as resentment. When we are affected by these external resentments, common symptoms include unexplained insomnia, headaches, physical discomfort, weakness, fatigue, restlessness, emotional fluctuations, etc., and sometimes thoughts related to the source of the resentment appear in our minds (as in the case above).


Some people might use these resentments to harm others, sending them out in the form of curses. However, we must remember that the thoughts and emotional energies we emit are our own, and when you imbue them with negative or malicious qualities, the malevolent energy will ultimately return to oneself, exacerbating self-harm (you can read the previous article 'Unavoidable Karma' for more details). In fact, before the sender of the resentment emits it, they themselves must first experience intense painful emotions such as anger, resentment, jealousy, depression, and various kinds of negative energy, which is already a firsthand experience of suffering for the sender; and eventually, the resentment will return to oneself, truly harming oneself without benefit. Therefore, when we understand the operation of thought and emotional energy, perhaps we can learn to let go of attachments, face life's challenges with a calm heart, and not allow ourselves to fall into suffering, and definitely not send out unintentional resentments that harm others.


On the other hand, understanding the powerful influence of thoughts and emotions, we can practice more 'metta meditation,' sending out energies of compassion and love to the world:


May all beings be peaceful,

May all beings be happy,

May all beings be liberated,

May all beings be full of love.
